Later this year, the Women’s ODI World Cup final will be held in Mullanpur’s Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. The spectacle in 50 overs will take place from September 29 to October 26.
Interestingly, Mullanpur has yet to host a women’s international game.
The tournament’s matches will also be held at Thiruvananthapuram, Raipur, Vishakhapatnam, and Indore.
Raipur and Thiruvananthapuram have not hosted any women’s international matches, much like Mullanpur. Although Nehru Stadium in Indore has hosted two Women’s World Cup matches in the past, no international cricket matches have been held there since the construction of Holkar Stadium. Regarding Vishakhapatnam, the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium has already held six women’s T20Is and five women’s ODIs.
India will host the Women’s ODI World Cup for the fourth time, in case you were unaware. The last time India hosted a women’s ICC event was during the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2016. During that event, India Women lost in the group stage. The forthcoming Women’s ODI World Cup will be the first since legendary players Jhulan Goswami and Mithali Raj retired.
This year’s tournament will follow the same structure as the 2022 one, with eight teams participating in a total of 31 games. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and England have all qualified for the event in addition to the hosts. The Women’s World Cup qualifier, which will take place in Lahore, will determine the other two teams. A hybrid format will be used for the event in the event that Pakistan qualifies. The two most likely nations to host Pakistan’s games are Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates.
