The renowned Indian captain, MS Dhoni, mentioned Ravindra Jadeja’s ability to develop into a real all-round player fifteen years ago. Jadeja, who frequently contributed more with the ball than the bat at the time, had not yet established himself in India’s starting lineup. Following Jadeja’s game-saving century in Manchester in 2025, Dhoni’s remarks have come up again.
Prior to a 2010 final match against Sri Lanka, MS Dhoni had discussed Jadeja’s skills and potential to influence the course of the match.
By 2025, the seasoned all-rounder has established himself as one of the most reliable players thanks to his ability to contribute in all three areas.
“Ravindra Jadeja needs to use the bat more. He was more of a bowling batsman when he joined the team. He is now more of a specialist bowler, though. He bowls in the Powerplays and at the end. He is, in my opinion, our best chance to develop him into an all-around player. One major worry is the absence of an all-round player. One or two of the bowlers must bat if you want to play with five of them.
Ravindra Jadeja has the capacity. He has performed admirably in both domestic and IPL competitions. He now has a good number of opportunities at the international level as well, and we hope he succeeds. He can even be considered a specialist bowler because of his success in the bowling department. He is the type of player who can provide you with consistency at number six or seven, so we hope that his batting performance sticks out. Before India’s match against Sri Lanka in the final on Thursday, MS Dhoni stated, “There aren’t many players that you can fill the spot right now.”
Jadeja matches the record set by Sir Garfield Sobers.
Jadeja, meanwhile, produced a fantastic knock in the recently finished fourth Test at Old Trafford. India was in trouble after giving up a 244-run lead in the opening innings, so Jadeja had one of his best efforts ever. After being 0/2 at one point, the visitors pulled off an incredible draw at 425/4 because to his undefeated 107, Washington Sundar’s century, and Shubman Gill’s tonne.
Jadeja helped India avoid losing any more wickets by batting for more than five sessions. By accomplishing this, he tied the 1966 record set by Sir Garfield Sobers for the most fifty-plus scores (five) at No. 6 or below in an English Test series. As a result of his 89, 69*, 72, 61*, 20, and 107* performances in this series, Dhoni’s long-ago forecast on his batting prowess has come back to life.
In addition to the Manchester innings, Jadeja joined Wilfred Rhodes and Sobers as the only other visiting cricketer to score more than 1000 runs and take more than 30 wickets in England. He is now tied with Sobers for the most 50+ runs at No. 6 or below in England as a visiting batsman (9).
