'Tumko kuch nahi pata'- When MS Dhoni was schooled on stumping by wife Sakshi

Some athletes’ charisma always manages to capture the moments on and off the pitch. Additionally, some players have a natural sense of comedy that can repeatedly make anyone giggle uncontrollably. In a video that has gone viral on social media, MS Dhoni, the former world champion and captain of India, recounted a comical incident involving him and his wife during the run-out versus stumping match.

When his wife, Sakshi Dhoni, disagreed with him over an umpire’s decision while watching the game on TV, the man, who is renowned for his lightning-fast glovework behind the wickets, was left speechless. Dhoni even remarked how the couple seldom ever discusses cricket at home, which is interesting. As he recounted the amusing story, he said that he was once watching an international match on TV when a batter attempted to dance down the track to hit the bowler for a six.

A wide ball delivery from the bowler, however, foxed him. What was the outcome? Knowing full well that the wicketkeeper had stumped him even though the ball was wide and that the umpires would not give him any reprieve, the hitter had already begun to make his way back to the pavilion. Sakshi, however, saw the event play out and said that the umpire was completely mistaken in calling the batter out. She also gave off the impression that she was certain the umpire would call the batter back after a while.

The judgement was perfectly within the law, MS Dhoni attempted to clarify, adding that there was a small distinction between running a guy out and getting stumped out. Then, to Dhoni’s astonishment, Sakshi shot back at “Mahi,” as he is affectionately called, claiming that the cricket legend knew nothing about the game.

We were watching a game, in case you missed it. Sakshi bhi thi saath mein toh ek match chal raha tha, one-day international tha. Sakshi cricket is typically main aur ke baare mein baat nahin karte. The bowler’s ball is daala. “Batsman ne step out kiya, toh woh stump ho gaya,” Dhoni stated in the widely shared video on the ‘X’ platform.

“Usually, the third umpire makes the final decision after reviewing the lete hain. First, my wife said, “Out nahin hai.” Jab tak usne bola out nahin hai, chalna start kar diya tha batsman ne. They will give him a call back, as you can see. Wide ball mein stump ho hee nahin sakta hai (An ODI was starting when we were watching a game at home). Sakshi accompanied me.

In our company, we don’t discuss cricket. After the bowler threw a wide ball, the batsman stepped out and was out. My wife, however, stated that it isn’t out. The batter was already on his way back by that point. However, she insisted that the umpires would call him back since he couldn’t stump in wide),” the former world champion went on.

Thus, maine kaha wide mein stumping hota hai, nahin hota no ball mein. ‘Tumko kuch nahin pata hai’ was her designation. The third umpire will call him back, so you just wait. Jab tak yeh baat ho rahi hai woh, the batsman has already crossed the boundary line. “No, no,” she says, “they must call him back.” When she finally jabbed out, the next hitter said, “There’s something wrong.”

I informed her that stumping occurs when there is a wide, but not when there is no ball. She advised him to wait, though, since the third umpire would call him back. The batsman had already arrived at the boundary line by now.

When the new batsman finally showed up, she finally exclaimed, “There’s something wrong,” The audience at the event burst out laughing as Dhoni put an end to the amusing banter.

According to Dhoni, he will participate in the 2025 IPL season.

After much conjecture regarding his potential involvement in the 2025 Indian Premier League, MS Dhoni recently provided his own explanation, saying that he wished to simply enjoy the game for a few more years without explicitly telling his fans that he was prepared to play for the Chennai Super Kings, a well-liked IPL (Indian Premier League) team.

For those who don’t know, Dhoni had surgery to treat his ongoing knee issue following the 2024 IPL season. Since then, he has taken time off from the pitch to spend time with his family on vacation and to work out hard at home.
