With five victories out of seven matches in the current IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings are ranked first in the standings. On April 23 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the MS Dhoni-led team defeated the Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs. Even though it was an away game for CSK, the team received tremendous support as the majority of spectators wore CSK jerseys to applaud for Dhoni.
Since the beginning of the IPL season, there have been rumors that this will be the final season for ‘Captain Cool,’ who has been a part of the T20 extravaganza since its inception and led CSK to four titles. Scott Styris, a former CSK and New Zealand cricketer, said that Dhoni should announce his retirement in advance so that he can be given a farewell tour of the country.
“I believe he would not be performing if he did not enjoy being in the locker room. Scott Styris stated on Jio Cinema, “I hope that whenever he decides to hang up the bat, be it now, next season, or many seasons later, that he announces it, because he deserves a farewell tour around the country.”
Scott Styris further described Dhoni as a wonderful servant of the game and suggested that everyone should have the opportunity to express their gratitude for his contributions.
“He has contributed greatly to Indian cricket and the IPL. As Stylis stated, this will give everyone a chance to thank Dhoni for his contributions to cricket not just in India but also around the world.
Every game, the 41-year-old is also delivering hints about his impending retirement. Notably, he mentioned that the audience had gathered to bid him farewell following the KKR match.
“All I can say is thank you for the overwhelming support. Next time, most of these players will wear KKR jerseys. They are attempting to bid me farewell, so many thanks to the audience,” Dhoni said at the post-game presentation.

After CSK’s sixth game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dhoni stated that this is the final phase of his career and that he must appreciate it. “It is essential to appreciate the final phase of my career, regardless of the circumstances. MS Dhoni expressed his desire to retire in front of CSK’s home audience in Chennai in 2021. Due to the home-and-away format of the current season, it is likely that the legendary captain will put up his boots at the end of the year.
