Following the Chennai Super Kings’ recent nine-wicket loss to the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 20, MS Dhoni was candid in acknowledging the team’s long-term goals. He disclosed that the Men in Yellow would like to use the remaining games to set a playing XI for the upcoming season if CSK doesn’t qualify for the playoffs this year.
“We will just focus on one game at a time, even though we have a lot of games to win. And getting the proper combination for next year will be crucial for us if we lose a couple. Too many players getting changed is something we don’t want. Therefore, I believe that attempting to qualify will be crucial. In an official interview with the official broadcasters after the game, MS Dhoni stated, “But if not, get a secured eleven for the next year and come back strong.”
Every effort will be made to find players for the upcoming season: Fleming
Stephen Fleming, the head coach of CSK, repeated MS Dhoni remarks while reiterating that obtaining a postseason berth was still their top aim for the time being.
“With regard to our current situation, we are realistic. However, we will seek everywhere for players and combinations for the upcoming season, and we will view it as a chance. According to ESPNcricinfo, Fleming said, “It’s not a great opportunity, because we want to be at the pointy end of the competition, but if it turns out that there’s no chance of us getting through, we’ll certainly make the most of it.”
The Men in Yellow suffered their sixth defeat of the season in their humiliating defeat to MI. In IPL 2025, CSK has only managed to win two games. They have a long way to go before they have any chance of placing in the competition’s top four.
