For the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the present Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, former Indian captain MS Dhoni has been outstanding. Dhoni has been entertaining fans with his tournament knocks in between cameo appearances, transporting them back in time.
Recently, after watching MS Dhoni performance against the Rajasthan Royals, former England captain Eoin Morgan expressed the opinion that the keeper-batter knew what was best for him and even raised the potential that he would go up the order in Chennai’s upcoming games.
Their hitting lineup is about as strong as it will get right now. I am certain that he enjoys putting himself last; otherwise, we would have seen him (by now) promoting himself. He isn’t batting any higher than usual right now, in my opinion. In the playoffs, under other conditions, he might, theoretically. But just now, I can’t see it. Morgan told the Hindustan Times that he is the greatest judge of himself and that the time wasn’t right if he didn’t feel that way.

Against the Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals in their previous match, Chennai scored 175 runs thanks to strong performances from Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer, Devdutt Padikkal, and Ravichandran Ashwin for the visitors. Man-of-the-moment Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was called back to the pavilion fairly early in the second innings, was unable to make an impression. Devon Conway, however, added 50 runs to his total with a tough hit.
The game was closely contested thanks to the leadership of MS Dhoni and seasoned Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Ravindra Jadeja struck 25* runs to keep Chennai’s hopes alive until the final ball, while Dhoni scored an unbeaten 32 runs in 17 deliveries. The 41-year-old delivered a superb knock as Chennai needed 19 runs off the final over, but it was ultimately insufficient as Rajasthan won the match by three runs. With the victory, Rajasthan moved into first place in the IPL points table with six points after four games, while Chennai fell to fifth with four points after the same number of games.
