Bowling coach Morne Morkel responded to a question concerning Arshdeep’s inconsistent performances for India in the shortest format by saying that, with a few games remaining before the 2026 T20 World Cup, the team management is trying to determine how the players are handling pressure.
Despite his game-winning performance against Australia in the third Twenty20 International at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Sunday, November 2, Arshdeep Singh was left out of the starting lineup for the two games that came before. When Jasprit Bumrah was rested during the Asia Cup in September, the left-arm speedster only participated in two games.
“It is not simple. Regarding players and selection, there will always be disappointment, but as a player, you can’t always control it. When speaking about Arshdeep at the press conference prior to the fourth Twenty20 International between Australia and India on Thursday, November 6, at the Carrara Oval in Queensland, Morkel stated, “For us, from our side, we just keep on asking them to work hard and try hard and be ready for when they do get the opportunity.”
Since there aren’t many games left until the T20 World Cup, we need to see how the players handle pressure in specific situations; otherwise, we won’t know. Playing those kinds of games while maintaining the mentality necessary to win the cricket match is therefore a piece of it,” Morkel continued.
India’s top wicket-taker in Twenty20 International cricket is Arshdeep. With an economy rate of 8.39 and an average of 18.56, he has taken 104 wickets in 66 games. With a final score of 3/35 in four overs in Hobart, the Punjab speedster was named Player of the Match.
You must be prepared with options: Morkel
Concerns have also been raised about the combinations that the current Indian squad has been using. The current Twenty20 International series against Australia has also seen some changes to the batting order.
You should have alternatives. Every team in the world, in my opinion, is experimenting with possibilities,” Morkel stated.
