Allan Donald, a legendary former South African bowler, hinted at a possible SA20 growth, stating that more Indian cricket players may cause the league to grow rapidly. This year, Dinesh Karthik played for the Paarl Royals in the third SA20 tournament. The first Indian cricket player to participate in the six-team competition was the wicketkeeper-batter.
Donald addressed rumours that two new teams would be added to the SA20 next season ahead of the much-awaited SA20 2025 final between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town.
There’s a small rumour around right now, you know. This morning, I noticed it on Instagram once more. Are there going to be two more franchises added? The Royal Challengers Bloemfontein poster was held by a small man. So, who can tell? “I mean,” SA20 Ambassador Donald stated in a virtual media exchange, “we’ll see what comes up at the end of the year.”
Donald praised Karthik’s participation in SA20 2025.
In the upcoming years, more Indian players should visit the Rainbow Nation to compete in the competition, the former speedster said. He even expressed his wish to see cricketing greats like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah participate in the tournament.
“Well, I’m not the one who has to make the decision. The BCCI is undoubtedly the world’s most powerful cricket organisation. It would be fantastic, in my opinion, to see younger, more gifted men. Donald remarked, “You know, you have your well-established guys, like Rohit Sharma, who has done it and been around for a long time.”
If there are Indian cricket players that are interested in playing in the SA20, that would be amazing. This league would continue to expand rapidly. Will there be more Indian cricket players visiting our country and playing in the SA20? I believed this was a huge competition when I took the first year. The second year was even more significant. And this year, we’re excelling beyond our previous achievements. There is no question that it would be fantastic. I have no doubt that Greame Smith and his staff would seize the opportunity if Indian cricket players were available,” he continued.
