In the current Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have only won a few of their first seven games. Their most recent setback occurred on Monday, April 21, when they lost to the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 39 runs at Eden Gardens.
They have a long road ahead of them to qualify for the playoffs, considering how their season has started. Venky Mysore, the CEO of KKR, emphasised the team’s long history of recovering from setbacks, including the 2014 and 2021 IPL and CLT20 2014 seasons.
“We are on our eighteenth season. Based on our performance, we rank in the top three. Every time someone joins our setup, I remind them that we had only won two and lost five games midway through 2014. As you may recall, we broke the IPL record in 2014 by winning nine straight games. We then participated in the Champions League and won five straight games. According to India Today, Mysore stated at a gathering in Kolkata, “So, we won 14 games in a row.”
“We advanced to the final in 2021 despite having just two victories and five defeats at the midway point. There are still a lot of games left, so anything can happen in this format,” he continued.
“Anywhere can be an inspiration,” says Mysore, urging KKR to stay
In addition, Venky Mysore encouraged the KKR team and its devoted supporters to find inspiration in the process rather than the outcome. In all, KKR has won the IPL championship three times. As the 18th installment of the prestigious T20 competition enters its second phase, they should perform better as the reigning IPL 2025 winners.
“Anywhere can be a source of inspiration. We occasionally become engrossed in the IPL standings, with its wins and losses. Mysore added, “But when you take a step back and look at things from a different angle, you realise that there’s a lot of life beyond these wins and losses—and you can find inspiration anywhere.”
