The United States destroyed the Bahamas by a massive margin of 149 runs in yet another lopsided match. With his first-ever T20I century, captain Monank Patel led the American batting show. Monank sent the Bahamas bowlers on a leather hunt that may be painfully engraved in their memories for some time to come as he blasted his way to 104 off 49 deliveries. Bahamas gave up early in their pursuit of 218 after stumbling through all 20 overs and ending their agony with just 68 runs.
Rahul Jariwala makes a stunning debut in T20I.
About three years ago, Rahul Jariwala, then twenty, was notoriously dropped from the national team’s consideration after only playing a few One-Day Internationals. Even though he dismantled attacks at home, Jariwala was unable to duplicate same results abroad. Even if it was against the lowly rated Bahamas, he displayed a hint of that promise in his T20I debut. He started the powerplay with a barrage of boundaries and showed no signs of nervousness, which allowed Monank to continue the carnage.
Monank keeps up his run-fest.
The captain returned to punish some very ordinary stuff from the Bahamas bowlers a day after leading the USA to a decisive victory against the Cayman Islands with a blazing 76. He hammered 19 off the last over of the powerplay to put himself in fifth gear right away, making it easy pickings for him in the powerplay against Romaine Smith’s military medium pace.
In the tenth over, after Monank had earlier in the same over clattered a boundary and a straight six that flew over the ropes, Jariwala fell while attempting to follow in his captain’s footsteps, holing out at long-on off Sandeep Goud. In the following over, Monank hit consecutive boundaries off Goud to reach his half-century, reaching the milestone with an unusual scoop shot. Shortly afterward, he celebrated his achievement with a long-off shot of champagne that carried for six.
Aaron Jones peppered the cow corner to bring up three consecutive sixes, using Marc Taylor’s off-spin as cannon fodder. During his brief stay, Jones maintained his foot on the throttle, but after skying one to the extra cover fence off Kervon Hinds, he ultimately fell for 35. Monank appeared to have changed his persona for T20, frequently displaying inventive footwork and occasionally even using the switch hit with effectiveness. In light of the calibre of batsmanship in the opposing camp, he hammered his century off just 44 deliveries to lead the USA to an unsustainable 217.
The lengthy meander
The USA’s intimidating request of 218 was not answered by the Bahamas batsmen. Marc Taylor and Festus Benn, the openers, largely had no intention. After Benn left due to a miscommunication between the two, the USA scored in the fifth over. In the seventh over, Ryan Tappin attempted a slog sweep off Vatsal Vaghela but missed a straightforward catch at cover.
In the following over, Ayan Desai put an end to Taylor’s resistance by cleaning him up. Within minutes of Taylor’s demise, Eugene Duff ran himself out, and the wickets fell in a canter. At the midway point, with just six wickets remaining and a massive 176 off 10 overs, the outcome was inevitable. Due to the Bahamas’ closed shop, the United States had to endure the midst of the 20 overs.
