Mohsin Naqvi, president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has refused to give India the Asia Cup trophy, stating that Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav must pick it up in person from the ACC office.
At the Dubai International Stadium, India won the Asia Cup final against Pakistan on September 28 by a margin of five wickets. Fans anticipated jubilation, but the Indian team delayed for over an hour during the post-match presentation ceremony before refusing to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, citing his political stance and repeated anti-Indian statements throughout the competition.
But Mohsin Naqvi said he will be the only one to present the prize.
A neutral dignitary, like the vice chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, was to present the trophy, at the request of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The victorious team had nothing to display on stage other than fictitious celebrations with an invisible trophy after India refused, and the ACC president left the pitch with the medals and silverware.
