The Pakistani squad has already won two significant victories against the Proteas to start their ODI series against South Africa. But this hasn’t prevented the suspicions concerning their governing body, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the issues the team management is having.
After top coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie resigned, the PCB came under heavy fire. As a result, Pakistan appointed Aaqib Javed, a former cricket player, as the team’s temporary head coach. Gillespie resigned from the team just eight months into his two-year contract, citing the board’s reduction of his coaching responsibilities as his justification.
A little drama has also been created by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s remarks regarding the accountability of the team administration and selectors.
In an interview with Geo TV, Naqvi stated, “The selection committee is supposed to choose the players, while the head coach is supposed to coach the team.”
Gary Kirsten and Gillespie’s accomplishments as coaches
Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie both had a wealth of coaching success and expertise before to accepting the position of head coach of the Pakistani squad. During his successful domestic spells, Gillespie managed Yorkshire, an English county team, and helped them win championships. The Adelaide Strikers, who he coached in the BBL, had a strong season and advanced to the playoffs for the second time in a row.
Gary Kirsten, who is renowned for his role in the Indian team’s victory in the 2011 ODI World Cup, is perhaps one of the greatest international coaches in the world. From 2011 to 2013, Kirsten was also the coach of his native South Africa, which he led to the top spot in the Test Cricket rankings. He has coached the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) of the Indian Premier League in addition to his accomplishments in international cricket.
