What the Indian bowling assault would look like has been a topic of much debate among cricket fans. The renowned Mohammed Shami may have to watch India’s tour of England from the sidelines if rumours are to be believed.
Starting on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds, India will embark on a five-match tour of England to kick off their World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–2027 campaign.
The Bengal seamer’s ability to bowl for extended periods of time is a problem for the selection committee, which is overseen by Ajit Agarkar, according to The Indian Express. The Indian board has been notified by the BCCI medical team that the 34-year-old fast bowler will not be able to bowl for extended periods of time. Going forward, his chances of participating in all five Test matches are also slim.
As previously stated, Jasprit Bumrah will not be able to participate in all five Test matches in England. Because it can cause problems for the team management while choosing the starting lineup, the selectors do not want another unreliable bowler to travel to the UK.
“Mohammed Shami bowls four overs for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, but the selectors and board are unsure if he can bowl more than ten overs in a single day.” The newspaper cited a board insider who stated, “We can’t take chances because test matches in England may require longer spells from the pacers.”
The 2023 India vs. Australia World Test Championship final at the Oval was Mohammed Shami final Test match appearance. At an average of 27.71, he has taken 229 wickets in 64 Test matches. With the recent retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin, India will lack experience for the crucial tour if Mohammed Shami does not take the plane to England. When the Amroha native finds his groove, he is a true match-winner.
Arshdeep Singh or Anshul Kamboj may be able to join the England tour in Mohammed Shami place.
The Punjab pacer played for Kent last season, giving him experience in county cricket. Kamboj, meanwhile, has already been chosen for the India A team’s two red-ball matches against the England Lions, which begin on May 30.
