Mohammed Shami unlikely to travel to Australia anytime soon for BGT

As the National Cricket Academy (NCA) continues to evaluate Mohammed Shami‘s health, the star pacer’s comeback to the national team continues. His fitness for international cricket is in doubt, despite an outstanding recovery during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), which is postponing any possible call-up to Australia for the current Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).

After a year-long absence owing to an ankle ailment that necessitated surgery, Shami recently resumed playing domestic cricket. In seven games while playing for Bengal in the SMAT, he claimed eight wickets. Concerns have been expressed, though, over his capacity to immediately resume playing Test cricket, particularly under Australian conditions.

During his SMAT matches in Rajkot, Shami’s recuperation has been meticulously watched by a group that includes national selector SS Das, BCCI’s Sports Science head Nitin Patel, and Strength and Conditioning trainer Nishanta Bardule.

Mohammed Shami will continue his Bengali SMAT campaign.

Sources say it is still improbable that Shami would be added to the BGT right away. Although it is possible that he could miss the entire series, there is hope that he will be available for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

In addition to his surgically repaired ankle, his knee’s swelling has prompted concerns about his capacity to provide his best effort. The BCCI is being cautious in bringing the pacer back, despite the fact that brief appearances in T20 matches have hinted at his return.

The pacer from Bengal will carry on with his SMAT campaign. He is anticipated to play in Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium in their pre-quarterfinal matchup against Chandigarh, since Bengal has advanced to the knockout stages.
