AUS vs IND 2024-25: Mohammed Shami ruled unfit by BCCI to travel for remainder of series

After surgery on his right heel, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been undergoing close rehabilitation and recovery with the BCCI Medical Team at the Centre of Excellence. From this heel issue, Shami is fully recovered.

In the November Ranji Trophy encounter between Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, Shami bowled 43 overs. In order to prepare for the Test matches, he bowled in all nine of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) games after that. He also participated in extra bowling sessions on the sidelines.

However, because of the increased joint loading from his bowling effort, he has had mild oedema in his left knee. Because of the increased bowling after a long time, the swelling is as expected.

The BCCI Medical Team has concluded that his knee needs more time for controlled exposure to bowling loads based on the results of the most recent medical evaluation. As a result, he has not been considered for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s final two Test matches.

Tanush Kotian is scheduled to visit Australia, and Mohammed Shami’s Vijay Hazare campaign is in jeopardy.

Under the supervision of the medical team at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, Shami will continue to engage in focused strength and conditioning exercises to increase his bowling loads and match the demands of the game’s longest format. His knee’s recovery will determine if he can compete in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Tanush Kotian will travel to Australia on Tuesday to join the Indian team prior to the fourth Test, according to Sportstar. The experienced player Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced his retirement following the third Test, is most likely to be replaced by the Mumbai all-rounder. Kotian can be regarded as a like-for-like substitute for the late Ashwin because of his playing role as an off-spin bowling all-rounder who can also contribute usefully with the bat down in the order.
