In response to claims made by former Pakistani cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq that India was tampering with the ball during their match against Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024, star Indian pacer Mohammed Shami recently stepped forward. On June 24, when playing Australia, Arshdeep Singh was accused of reverse swinging the ball.
In an interview, Shami delivered a biting retort to the former cricket player, recalling an incident from the 2023 ODI World Cup where former Pakistani player Hasan Raza had made remarks identical to this.
“It seems like I was given a different kind of ball at the World Cup. In an interview, I even declared that I would eventually break through the ball. The Player of the Match ball is actually still with me.
Mohammed Shami informed Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube show “Unplugged” that someone else had made a comment regarding how Arshdeep had managed to reverse swing the ball.
“Inzamam-ul-Haq, I just have one piece of advice for you: you are a magician if you can perform the feat; nevertheless, you label the actions of others as “ball tampering.” Such remarks from a player of his calibre come as a surprise. Go somewhere else and ignore these moronic remarks. You just need to keep it properly to get the ball to reverse swing; magic is not needed,” he continued.
In response to Inzamam-ul-Haq’s remarks regarding the same during the T20 World Cup, India captain Rohit Sharma clarified the subtleties of reverse swinging. “Teach something to someone who taught it to the world,” Inzamam-Ul-Haq retorted.

It’s also important to remember that Hasan Raza said the Indian team was handed alternative sets of balls by the ICC and the BCCI during a game’s second innings, enabling them to bowl better than any other team in the competition. The Hindustan Times cited Hasan Raza as adding, “There needs to be an inspection done on the ball, here could also be an extra layer of coating on the ball for swing.”
