"I saw him standing in the balcony on 19th floor," Mohammed Shami's pal says of pacer's suicidal thoughts

Mohammed Shami is one of the most respected players in Indian cricket, not only for his excellent on-field abilities but also for his cheerful personality. To the great surprise of all of his supporters, Umesh Kumar, a close friend of the Bengal pacer, recently revealed the lowest point in the pacer’s career.

In March 2018, Mohammed Shami divorced wife Hasin Jahan filed for divorce, citing the cricket player’s adultery and domestic abuse.

The pacer, however, refuted every accusation, referring to the whole ordeal as “an attempt to malign his image.” When some individuals accused Shami of match-fixing following India’s 2021 T20 World Cup loss to Pakistan, he suffered yet another serious setback. Additionally, the 33-year-old received hate speech based on his religion on social media.

“At that time, Shivam was struggling with everything. He shared my home and lived with me. But that night, he was devastated when the charges of rigging with Pakistan surfaced and prompted an investigation. “I can accept anything, but I won’t stand for accusations of betraying my nation,” Umesh, a friend of Shami, stated on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast “Unplugged.”

Speaking beforehand, Kumar responded to the tidings of the famous cricket player’s apparent attempt at suicide, recalling a nighttime encounter in which he noticed him nervously standing on the balcony. He continued by saying that Shami was overjoyed to learn that the investigating committee had found no evidence of match-fixing.

The news also revealed that he intended to take a severe step that evening—namely, end his life. I woke up around four in the morning to have a drink of water. He was standing on the balcony when I noticed him heading to the kitchen. The floor on which we were living was number 19. I knew what had transpired. I think Shami’s longest night ever was that one. Later on, during a conversation, he received a message on his phone from the committee looking into the incident, stating that he had received a clean sheet. He continued, “I think he was happier that day than he would have been if he had won a World Cup.

At the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Shami is working hard after a successful ankle operation earlier this year. His farewell to the Men in Blue came in the ODI World Cup 2023 championship game. He helped India as runners-up at the major event by emerging as the highest wicket-taker. Prior to the September 4 commencement of the Duleep Trophy, Shami will want to go back to full fitness. If he does well in the important home competition, he will be given serious consideration for India’s return against Bangladesh in the ensuing two-match Test series.
