The entire country is still in shock following India’s horrific defeat to Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Fans and players have sent heartfelt messages for the Indian squad on social media, publicly expressing their disappointment. Mohammed Shami, a fast bowler, recently blamed India’s lackluster performance in the championship match on their lack of runs at the bat.

According to Mohammed Shami, the squad could have comfortably defended the total if they had scored 300 runs while batting first. Notably, the Australian captain elected to bat first, and India was bowled out for 240 in 50 overs. Thanks to a brilliant century from Travis Head (137 off 120), the Australians were able to comfortably hunt down the target in the 43 overs.

“Our run total was lower. If we had scored 300 runs, we could have easily held the wicket. However, I don’t believe it is appropriate to place the blame anywhere. It’s critical to assess our collective position. Working together is crucial. However, I will admit that perhaps we didn’t score enough runs, Mohammed Shami was cited by Hindustan Times.

Mohammed Shami had an incredible World Cup campaign even if it ended in defeat. He finished as the tournament’s best wicket-taker with 24 scalps from only seven matches at an economy of 5.26 and an average of 10.70. The speedster became the first player in the history of the ODI World Cup to pick the most fifers with three five-wicket hauls during the competition (4).

Mohammed Shami World Cup 2023 campaign broke all previous records.

In the major event, he also set a new record by becoming the fastest player to reach 50 wickets in just 17 innings. In the opening semi-final at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the 33-year-old added another feather to his cap by recording the best bowling numbers by an Indian in both the ODI World Cup and the ODIs. He did this by striking a breathtaking 7/57 against New Zealand.
