Mohammed Shami faces Supreme Court notice in alimony row

In response to a petition submitted by his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami and the West Bengal government have received a notice from the Supreme Court of India. Jahan went to the highest court to request an increase in the alimony that the Calcutta High Court had earlier granted her and their daughter.

Jahan has argued that the sum is insufficient and has appealed the High Court’s previous decision, which gave her INR 1.5 lakh a month and INR 2.5 lakh for their daughter’s care. In response to her appeal, the Supreme Court has set a hearing date for the case and urged the West Bengal government and the right-arm pacer to reply within four weeks.

This move adds a new chapter to the lengthy court battle between Shami and Jahan, which has been going on since 2018 and includes claims of maintenance, dowry harassment, and domestic abuse.

Shami is facing criminal charges under several sections of the Indian Penal Code as a result of the couple’s personal problems.

Even though the 35-year-old was exonerated of any match-fixing charges by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the public has continued to be interested in his personal and legal issues. When Shami was questioned in an interview about his marriage to Jahan and other comparable conflicts in Indian cricket, he gave an open response, considering the difficulties he has had.

“Don’t do that. I don’t regret the past. What is lost is lost. I don’t want to hold myself or anyone else accountable. I want to concentrate on playing cricket. These arguments are unnecessary for me. It is your responsibility to look into that. You want to hang us, but why? Examine the other viewpoint as well. Shami stated, “I concentrate on cricket, not controversies.”
