“I proceed step by step” – Mohammad Amir on the possibility of participating in the IPL after acquiring British citizenship

Mohammad Amir

Former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir is attempting to obtain a British passport after marrying British citizen and attorney Narjis Khan.

Mohammad Amir relocated to the United Kingdom in 2020, and acquiring a passport will allow him to compete for England in international cricket. Regarding his potential participation in the IPL with a British passport, he stated that he will take things one step at a time and not plan too far ahead.

“To begin with, I will not represent England. I’ve competed for Pakistan. Second, (referring to the IPL), one more year remains. What will the situation be at that time? I always say that I take things step-by-step. We do not know what will occur tomorrow, so I begin to consider playing in the IPL in 2024. ARY News quoted Amir as saying, “When I get my passport, I’ll take advantage of the best opportunity I have.”

Notably, Amir proclaimed his international cricket retirement in 2020. The sailor allegedly claimed that team management had tortured him mentally, which was a shocking admission. The Punjab-born seamer played in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 50 T20Is for Pakistan and collected 259 wickets across all formats. He last played for his country in a Twenty20 international against England in Manchester on August 30, 2020.

Amir burst onto the scene as a youthful prodigy able to hit the ball with ferocity in both directions. His involvement in the spot-fixing scandal during Pakistan’s 2010 tour of England embroiled him in controversy. Consequently, he was given a five-year suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Upon his return to international cricket in 2016, the fast bowler redeemed himself by bowling Pakistan to victory in the 2017 Champions Trophy final against India, taking the prized scalps of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan to restrict India to 158 runs in pursuit of 339. As a consequence, Pakistan won the final by 180 runs, and Amir’s figures of 3/16 in six overs were outstanding.
