Mohammad Ali bolsters Notts pace battery

After signing a short-term, multi-format contract with Nottinghamshire for the final two months of the 2026 season, Pakistani seamer Mohammad Ali is expected to play in English domestic cricket. The 33-year-old will support Nottinghamshire’s bowling resources in both red-ball and white-ball tournaments during a pivotal stage of the domestic season. He is expected to arrive in early August and be available for selection in both the County Championship and the One Day Cup.

Ali, who has taken 340 wickets in his career, has a strong domestic background. His most recent appearance came during his ODI debut against New Zealand in March 2025. He has made eight appearances for Pakistan at the international level. Three T20I outings and four Test matches are also on his international career. Ali said he was thrilled to help the club succeed.

“I am thrilled to get the opportunity to play county cricket and experience English conditions, as I have always desired to do. I am very excited to play at Trent Bridge and support Nottinghamshire’s success because it is a very well-known stadium worldwide. It’s exciting to be able to play both red-ball and white-ball cricket, and I’m looking forward to supporting the squad during a crucial period of the season,” ESPNcricinfo cited Ali as saying.

The coaching team at Nottinghamshire is already familiar with Ali.

While playing for Central Punjab in the 2022–2023 Pakistani domestic season, he collaborated closely with assistant head coach Paul Franks. With 24 wickets at an average of 25.54, Ali ended the campaign as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

Franks watched him from the sidelines as he took six wickets in five games, including a game-winning stint in the final, helping Central Punjab win the domestic 50-over title. Franks also discussed his relationship with Ali and his inclusion.

“When I coached Muhammad in Pakistan, it was his attitude and temperament that truly resonated with me. Since then, he has remained on our radar, and I have maintained a close contact with him despite our distance from one another. We’ve previously looked at other ways to get him to the club, and we talk to him frequently, but this one seemed to come at a great moment for both of us. “Coaching him is a true pleasure,” said Franks.

Sam Whiteman sign Yorkshie

Following his departure from Western Australia, Yorkshire has finalised the signing of wicketkeeper-batter Sam Whiteman on a three-year, all-format contract.

Whiteman, who was born in Doncaster before moving to Australia, has a strong domestic record. He has scored 6,930 runs in 119 first-class games, including 17 hundreds. He was a major contributor to Western Australia’s triumph in 2022 and led them to successive Sheffield Shield wins in 2023 and 2024. In addition, he has won three Big Bash League titles with the Perth Scorchers.

In 2023, Whiteman had a successful stint with Northamptonshire, averaging over 37 and scoring two hundreds and three half-centuries. He will play for Yorkshire as a locally qualified footballer and is in possession of a British passport.
