Mitchell Marsh, the star Australian all-rounder, has announced that he will end his domestic red-ball career by retiring from Sheffield Shield at the end of the current season. However, Marsh has stated that he is willing to represent the nation in Test matches if necessary. The cricketer’s most recent Test match was against India on Boxing Day at the MCG, which was almost a year ago.
Mitchell Marsh, who made his debut in 2009 at the young age of 18, has said he feels privileged to have shared in Western Australia’s development. He will now continue to concentrate on playing for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League (BBL) and leading Australia in T20Is and One-Day Internationals.
“Playing cricket for Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield has been an honour. I have a strong commitment to the group and the Perth Scorchers right now. My life has been greatly impacted by playing for Washington, and I intend to continue to give back in any manner I can for a very long time,” Mitchell Marsh stated in a statement that WACA cited.
WA head coach Adam Voges reiterated that Mitchell Marsh gave the team his all in his remarks regarding his leaving.
Voges, who has also played on the same pitch as Mitchell Marsh, has said that seeing him play was always enjoyable. As the seasoned all-rounder continues to play a significant role in both international and T20 league cricket, he also wished him well.
“Mitch is the epitome of what it takes to be a Western Australian Sheffield Shield player. He has sacrificed everything for his state, whether it is playing with him or, more recently, coaching him. Seeing him go from Sheffield Shield to being a successful international cricket player for Australia has been an honour. It’s been a pleasure to accompany him on his trip, and he’s an exceptional character both on and off the pitch’, Voges said.
Marsh will notably say goodbye to Western Australia following a remarkable career that included 55 Shield games for the team, totalling 2744 runs and 82 wickets. One of the few Western Australian players having a family connection to the team is him.
