Mitchell Marsh will play for the Perth Scorchers against the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024–25 on Tuesday, January 7 at Optus Stadium in Perth. After an almost three-year break, the seam-bowling all-rounder will rejoin the league.
In January 2022, Marsh faced the Sydney Sixers in his final BBL match. Due to an ankle injury, Marsh missed the following season.
In 2023, Mitchell Marsh made a comeback to Australia’s Test team during the Ashes.
Prior to being benched for last week’s fifth Test match against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), he was a consistent starter.
After playing for the Test team in the last two Border-Gavaskar Trophy matches, fast bowler Jhye Richardson has also been cleared to return to the BBL.
In the upcoming days, the other Test players’ availability will be confirmed. Travis Head, who is currently playing well, has virtually assured everyone that he will not be playing for the Adelaide Strikers.
“I’m in ruins. At the SCG on Sunday, Head told Fox Cricket, “I’m not sure what I’m going to do in the coming days, but we have 10 or 12 days off before we go to Sri Lanka, and I’m going to use every little bit of that.”
After Australia defeated India in the fifth and final Test match to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Marsh left for Perth on Monday. Beau Webster, who made his Test debut in Sydney and had a strong performance with the bat and ball, took his place. If Marsh is not selected in Australia’s squad for their forthcoming Test series against Sri Lanka, he may play for Perth till the conclusion of the season.
Webster might be eligible for the Melbourne Stars’ upcoming matchup with the Sydney Sixers on Thursday as well as the January 12 return derby against the Renegades. After his effort in the final two Test matches against India, Melbourne Stars player Scott Boland might be allowed a break.
