'Travis Head is a very underrated bowler'- Mitchell Marsh praises Australia opener for great bowling in 5th ODI

One of the most effective batters, Travis Head is a southpaw who, when hot, strikes out at the highest rate. But in the fifth ODI against England in Bristol, the opener for Australia bowled a surprise to all. In 6.2 overs, the explosive batsman turned spinner took four wickets and gave up just 28 runs.

Australia was able to contain the hosts after his outstanding performances, and they ended up winning the series 3-2. Head received several balls and took six wickets at an economy rate of just 5.36 in four games. Mitchell Marsh, the captain of Australia, made the observation that the 30-year-old bowler is greatly underappreciated and joked that he is a fantastic bowling option.

He’s a really underappreciated bowler in my opinion, and each time he bowls, he appears to alter the course of the match. We usually like his celebrations, and as I mentioned before, it’s important to have as many options as possible. However, circumstances change, and the ball started spinning a little later in their inning, so we are fortunate to have options like him,”

Mitchell Marsh remarked following the decisive game.

In the last ODI, Australian spinners dominated the overs-share. They combined to bowl 32.2 overs of spin, with Head emerging as the most effective bowler. Head pocketed Ben Duckett, who had reached his century, and England were coasting towards the estimated score of 350.

When England finished their innings on 309, he wasted little time in bundling up the lower order. In the end, the rain-shortened match saw the visitors win by 49 runs using the DLS technique.
