In Australia’s Boxing Day Test victory against Pakistan, Marsh was also a key player. Marsh came out to bat with the hosts down 16/4 in the second inning and needed a big blow. The Perth-born cricketer did just that, partnering with Steve Smith for 153 runs to eliminate Pakistan from the game.
Mitchell Marsh, who batted at number six, finished with 96 runs, just four runs short of his century. Although the batsman was overjoyed with the series victory, he also admitted to being a little let down about missing the century, given that both his father, Geoff Marsh, and older brother, Shaun Marsh, had missed out on the famous MCG honours board in the past.
“I was very close to making the bloody big honours board, but it wasn’t meant to be. I guess there is a lot of history at this ground with the Boxing Day Test.” I suppose there is some history between us because Shaun technically still has me. But hopefully I get another chance at it,” Mitchell Marsh stated in an interview with ABC.
