In the 2025 Global Super League, Rangpur Riders’ title defence will be virtually managed by Mickey Arthur. Shanian Taneem, the director of Rangpur, has announced that Arthur will not be in Guyana for the duration of the competition.
He has been forced to stay behind and coach the BPL team from a staggering 7500 kilometres distant due to his coaching commitment with Derbyshire in Division Two of the current County Championship. Rangpur will kick off their campaign in the second game of the season on July 10th, when the GSL officially begins. Guyana Amazon Warriors (CPL), Hobart Hurricanes (BBL), Dubai Capitals (ILT20), and Central Stags (Super Smash) will all compete in the 20-over match.
At a Dhaka jersey revealing ceremony, Shanian revealed that Greg Smith will work with the team in person, and Mickey Arthur will communicate with Greg and the players on a regular basis.
“Mickey Arthur is now unavailable because he is coaching Derbyshire County Cricket Club and the English County Championship is still in progress. As a result, Greg Smith will be our new head coach. Mickey has complete faith in him. Mickey will continue to communicate with the gamers and provide feedback. “Under Mickey’s direction, Greg will be the team’s leader,” Shanian said, according to ESPNcricinfo.
Shanian added that throughout the formation of the unit’s team and strategy in the lead-up to the event, Arthur conferred with the management.
“During the final Bangladesh Premier League season and the prior Global Super League, Mickey Arthur served as our head coach. We are rather confident in his skills. We kept in close communication with him as we assembled our team, talking about which players would be most effective on Guyana’s fields,” Shanian continued.
Nurul Hasan, who has led Rangpur since 2023, will serve as captain. They will keep Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, and Harmeet Singh from their 2024 team. The overseas contingent includes Ibrahim Zadran, Iftikhar Ahmed, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Kyle Mayers.
Nurul Hasan (c), Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Naim, Mahidul Islam, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Mahidul Saif, Abu Hider, Rakilbul Hasan, Yasir Ali, Kyle Mayers, Tabraiz Shamsi, Ibrahim Zadran, Akif Javed, Iftikar Ahmed, Harmeet Singh, and Khawaja Nafay comprise the Rangpur Riders’ lineup.
