Former England captain Michael Vaughan attacked former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez for calling veteran player Virat Kohli “selfish” following the veteran’s century against South Africa on November 6 at Kolkata’s storied Eden Gardens. The great batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI record and his fifty-ninth century in the format were identical.
Hafeez highlighted how Kohli hit the three-figure mark throughout the match to support his claim that he was selfish when playing against the Proteas.
“This World Cup has seen three instances of Virat Kohli’s selfishness in his batting, in my opinion. He didn’t prioritize the team in the 49th over, instead aiming to take a single to attain his individual century. Because he is playing for Team India and not for himself, Rohit Sharma avoided playing selfish cricket, according to Hafeez.
In response to Hafeez’s statement, Michael Vaughan declared that the cricket player from Pakistan had made “utter nonsense” remarks.
The English batsman praised Kohli for his outstanding performance as well, calling it an anchor-type innings.
“Get moving, @MHafeez22! India has dominated eight teams while playing excellent cricket. With 49 tons under his belt, @imVkohli just finished an anchor duty inning on a challenging pitch. His squad triumphed by more than 200 points! This is completely absurd. #Pakistan #India #CWC2023,” Vaughan posted on X.
Come on @MHafeez22 !!! India have hammered 8 teams playing great cricket .. @imVkohli now has 49 tons and his last was an anchor role innings on a tricky pitch .. His team won by over 200 !!!! This is utter nonsense .. #CWC2023 #India #Pakistan https://t.co/Foh3hhz3RE

In the meantime, India’s domestic World Cup campaign has been one to remember. The Men in Blue put on an impressive all-around display to score 243 runs in their penultimate group-round match.
India amassed a massive 326 runs after electing to bat first because to Kohli’s undefeated innings of 101(121) and Shreyas Iyer’s noteworthy half-century (77 off 87). Afterwards, as India dismissed Temba Bavuma and associates for 83 runs in just 27.1 overs, star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja claimed a fifer.
