India’s hopes of making it to the World Test Championship final appear dim after a humiliating 3-0 home loss to New Zealand. Despite occasional displays of genius from Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Sarfaraz Khan, the batting unit battled greatly against the spinners and was unable to establish dominance in the middle. KL Rahul was dropped following the first Test in Bengaluru, while the seniors, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, scored 93 and 91 runs in six innings, respectively.
Regarding India’s prospects in the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is scheduled to start on November 22, former cricket player Michael Vaughan is concerned. He thinks that in order for India to win the title, the seniors must improve and make significant runs, but he worries that they may find it difficult. The 50-year-old pointed out that in order to compete against Australian pacers, the visitors will also need to work on their technique.
“The only thing India will need to win in Australia is for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to return to their peak and score massive runs. I’m afraid they won’t, but I hope they do. Vaughan told Fox Cricket, “I’m afraid they might be on the verge of losing. You have to come here with good technique and an incredible mindset when you’re up against an Australian attack that is on par with the best that has ever played the game in their own backyard.”

In 2024, Virat participated in six Test matches but only managed to score 250 runs. Despite his severe struggles, Vaughan pointed out that India won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2021 without his participation. According to the former England captain, Kohli’s current form is concerning, and the player is working hard every minute to get back on track.
“I mean, they didn’t have Virat Kohli to go after that target at the Gabba in the last series they won. I will admit that there is serious concern about Kohli, even if Australia hadn’t lost a Test match at the Gabba in thirty-two years.

It’s not Virat Kohli who missed that full throw to Mitchell Santner. Vaughan stated, “You’re looking at a player who’s just fighting (for form) at the moment.”
