After Virat Kohli retired from the Test format on Monday, May 12, former opening batsman Virender Sehwag posted a heartfelt tweet praising the cricketer on his incredible career.
Notably, after multiple reports alleging the same were circulating over the weekend, Kohli moved to Instagram and released a social media post announcing his decision to resign from the red-ball format with immediate effect. In appreciation of his India and Delhi colleague Virat’s impeccable and unmatched Test career, Sehwag, who is also from Delhi, posted a fraternal remark.
“The brat from Delhi, where I live. I felt you were destined for great things when I first saw you as a child, but you have truly surpassed my expectations in every way,” Virender Sehwag said Virat through Cricbuzz.
“Cheeku yaar, I have some very important things to say to you today: Your commitment to Test cricket will pay off for many years to come. Although I’m disappointed that you didn’t reach 10,000 runs, this shows that you are a self-sufficient individual. People recall the memories, but they forget the statistics. No one can ever match your accomplishments as captain; they are truly remarkable. Winning those 60 overs of agony in England, Australia, and South Africa. How many times will you win my heart, my cheeku? I only have one. “Best wishes for the future,” he continued.
Sehwag and Kohli, who are both from Delhi, have dominated the eras in which they have played. The 36-year-old has 9230 runs at 46.85 in 123 games, while the senior hitter has 8586 runs from 104 Tests at an exceptional average of 49.34 for India. Sehwag has 23 hundreds against his name, whereas Virat has 30 hundreds. Both have retired as treasured Indian cricket treasures, and their admirers will always hold them in the highest regard.
