'We just played to our strength and tried to restrict the damage to our innings'- Mehidy Hasan details Day 4 of play in Kanpur

It appeared that Bangladesh was in a good position to attempt and bat for the majority of the day, or maybe the whole of it, prior to the start of the fourth day of play in Kanpur. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, an all-rounder for Bangladesh, discussed how the Indian batting order’s potent display took his team by surprise on the pitch.

But the Indian bowlers showed up, and even with a massive century from Mominul Haque, the visitors could only manage 233.

Following that, there was complete chaos as India exploited the bowlers for Bangladesh, scoring 285 runs at a cost of nine wickets before declaring and putting Bangladesh in to bat for an exhausting 11-over spell until Stumps.

“Yes, I was startled, but they really had a terrific plan when they performed. It seemed to us after two or three overs that they had a strategy. All we did was play to our strengths and attempt to limit the harm to our innings. There are various possibilities in Test cricket, and the way the match played out was similar to T20 cricket. Everyone from the top to the bottom played for runs, and we attempted to squeeze the runs,” said Mehidy, cited by. “They planned to come here and play for the win.”

Tomorrow, we’re going to try to bat for a long time: Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Mehidy also explained the precise strategy his team should employ on the last day of the Test and gave them clear instructions on how to turn the match into one in which they may defeat the hosts, India.

We have to seize the chance since the wicket is favourable for the hitters. Although I believe it will be difficult, it will undoubtedly be encouraging for us if the batsmen can bat well for even one session. If we wish to compete for a victory, we need additional time. With just one day remaining, we must set a goal for them and then take ten wickets. Right now, our security takes precedence above considering a victory from this point on. Tomorrow, we’ll try to bat for a very long time. Should such an occasion present itself, we could play to win. We’re prioritising ourselves,” Miraz continued.

Mehidy expressed regret that neither he nor the squad supported the century on the other end, and he gave Mominul credit for his mental toughness in turning a knock into a significant score.

“The first innings is crucial in Test matches, and Mominul bhai batted exceptionally well. We were unable to provide him with support, which could have changed the outcome of the game and benefited us. Mehidy continued, “I think Mominul’s temperament was very good, which is why he could score runs. His ball selection was very good, and he really played well after a while.”

Mehidy had to make his way back after poking one to first slip, but he looked good during his 42-ball spell at the crease.

To give Bangladesh any hope of rescuing a draw against a light-hearted Indian bowling attack that will be seeking wickets from the opening ball of the last day, he would need to play a more calm knock on Day 5.
