Meg Lanning

Meg Lanning, the legendary skipper of Australia, ended her remarkable 13-year international career. She has won the World Cup seven times. Amazingly, as the team captain, she won five of them. In addition, she is the best run scorer in Australia for all women’s formats and a gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games.

The 31-year-old played 241 matches for Australia at the end of her international career, including 132 T20Is, 103 ODIs, and six Tests. She intends to carry on participating in domestic cricket matches as well as women’s big bash league and premier league competitions.

Meg Lanning claimed that throughout the previous 18 months, she had considered retiring and had taken a few vacations from the game for various causes. Over the course of the previous 48 hours, the right-handed hitter claims that she came to the conclusion that it was time to retire. Lanning added that she felt better about the choice she had made since she could now clearly see her future.

I’ve realized that during the past 18 months, I may have spent some time attempting to persuade myself of the benefits of continuing to play and the goals I have for myself. I’m not the type to take things half-heartedly. I’ve been battling to figure all that out for a little while. However, it became evident, especially in the past few days, that this was the appropriate decision and something I was prepared for. According to ESPNcricinfo, Lanning stated, “Since I made the decision, I’ve definitely felt a little bit relieved, I guess, to have made a call and be a little bit clearer on what the next little bit looks like.”

I stepped outside the cricket bubble for a while, and I’m willing to explore new things: Meg Lanning

Meg Lanning added that her vacations from the sport let her realize what other activities were available to her. She also made it quite apparent that she will continue to play domestic cricket in Australia. She is therefore not planning too far ahead of time and will be receptive to any cricket-related possibilities or roles that may present themselves.

“I have contracts with a few teams, so I’ll stick to playing domestically,” the player said. To tell the truth, I haven’t given it much thought. I was able to think about what else is out there because I had some time to step back and be outside the cricket bubble. I haven’t figured anything out, for sure. I’m eager for something novel and distinctive. I’ll continue competing domestically, of course, but with a little more time and chance to travel and see new areas,” Meg Lanning declared.

“I’ve really only known this for the past 13 years, and I’ve done everything in my power to perform well and support the squad. The success of the squad has really been the focus, and I’ve given it everything I have. And now, I need to concentrate on myself and explore my options,” the 31-year-old said.

I’ve probably been rather closed-minded about cricket and what I wanted to achieve for a long time, but I’ve become a little more receptive to new ideas. I’m willing to try new things and see where they end up, even if I have no idea what the future contains. I’m not going to turn down anything,” the Singaporean woman declared.

Meg Lanning is a participant in the 2023 Women’s Big Bash League. In the eight-team competition, she is in charge of the Melbourne Stars. Only two of the eight games the Stars have played have they won, making this campaign unmemorable. On Friday, November 10, Lanning will play when the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder square off in Sydney.
