Reports: Former cricket players and media will face legal action from PCB and Babar Azam.

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2024, was repeatedly criticised by former cricket players for his subpar leadership. Following the 2023 ODI World Cup, the 29-year-old retired from all captaincy roles; nevertheless, he then chose to assume leadership once more in response to pleas from important Pakistani officials. But under his direction, Pakistan lost to New Zealand and England, and as a result, they were eliminated from the global competition at the group stage.

Their path to the Super Eights was difficult by their defeats over India and the United States of America in their first round matchups. Many current and past cricket players, including Ahmed Shehzad, Shoaib Malik, and Mohd Hafeez, criticised the captain for his subpar leadership after their elimination and pointed out that he gives preference to his pals on the squad, even though they are not talented enough.

According to reports, Babar Azam and Pakistan Cricket Board officials have gathered evidence pertaining to claims made by journalists and former players, and they will shortly provide it to the legal department. A few YouTubers even discussed potential match-fixing, which enraged the referees.

Remarking on the same, an official close to the development said that unfounded accusations will not be accepted and that evidence will be requested. He continued by saying that there would be no investigation because there was no substance to these remarks and that the legal team will act shortly.

“We are completely aware of the disparaging remarks made. If criticism stays within the rules of the game, it is permissible and will not be met with resistance. But under no circumstances can we accept unfounded accusations such as match-fixing,” the PCB source was cited by First Post in the story.

“PCB is certain, so why should we look into it? The people who made the accusations ought to back them up. Our legal staff has been given the go-ahead to notify these people and request proof. We will pursue restitution for slander if it is not given. The insider continued, “A decision will be made in six months thanks to a new law in Punjab.
