McGrath targets England Ashes triumph

Australia’s next major goal, according to former cricket player Glenn McGrath, is to win the upcoming series in England. In the most recent Ashes, Australia defeated England 4-1.

The last time Australia defeated their bitter rivals in England in a Test series was in 2001. According to McGrath, Australia has a side capable of defeating England at home. Additionally, he listed a few Australian players to keep an eye on during the 2027 England visit.

“Winning in England in 2027 will be this Australia team’s next objective. Going there and winning is a huge accomplishment for Australia. Australia is undoubtedly the winning squad. Between now and then, not many people will be retiring. Australia will want both Hazlewood and Cummins to return and bowl well. Boland’s abilities have also been witnessed by England.

“The approach that Head is taking is outstanding,” McGrath said in a BBC Sport piece.

The 55-year-old made a suggestion that he would stick to his usual picking of Australia to win 5-0. McGrath, though, is adamant that winning the 2027 Ashes will be Australia’s greatest challenge.

“A victory would be enormous for Australia. With the exception of England and India, they have triumphed everywhere. Many of the players there, including Lyon, Starc, Cummins, and Steve Smith, have never won in England. I can’t help but make my usual 5-0 whitewash prediction before the series, even if it will be difficult. That is their Everest and their next objective,” he continued.

Australia defeated England 4-1 in the 2001 series. They have played in England six times since that series, drawing twice (2019 and 2023) and losing four (2005, 2009, 2013, and 2015).
