McClenaghan Questions Kohli's Controversial Run-Out Against RR

In the Eliminator match against the Rajasthan Royals, Virat Kohli demonstrated his exceptional fitness once again, orchestrating an incredible run-out. As Cameron Green bowled his opening over, Riyan Parag hit the ball hard toward mid-wicket.  However, Green did not have complete control over the ball as he held it through his palms’ ribs while removing the bails.

Green stopped Dhruv Jurel short of his crease, and Kohli, who was positioned there, covered the 19-meter run and tossed the ball 52 meters away.

After taking enough time, the third umpire declared the player out. Former Mumbai Indians pacer Mitchell McClenaghan, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling and questioned if the regulations had changed. In support of his argument that Green was not in complete possession of the ball and that the verdict was therefore unfair, he also included a snapshot taken from the rule book.

“Always thought you had to have the ball held in your hand to cause a runout… have the rules changed?” McClenaghan stated in an X post.

McClenaghan supported his assertion with a screenshot of the rule book. “The wicket is broken fairly if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground by a fielder with his hand or arm, providing that the ball is held in the hand or hands so used, or in the hand of the arm so used,” the rule book stated.

The winning run for RCB ends.

In the Eliminator match on May 22, RCB was coming off a six-match winning streak against RR. They were the clear favorites to win because they had prevented the Chennai Super Kings from making it to the playoffs. However, the RCB hitters had a terrible night while being on track to meet the goal. RR needed four wickets to take out the 173-run mark.
