‘Feel much better, feel much fitter' - Mayank Yadav is prepared to return, but he won't push it

In the 2024 Indian Premier League, star bowler Mayank Yadav wowed the crowd with his sheer pace. He was so good that there were rumours he would be included in India’s T20 World Cup team. But a side strain injury sustained during the competition altered everything, as he was unable to recuperate in time. Still, the pacer is being closely watched and his development is being tracked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The officials are taking great care of the pacer and are not in the mood to push him back into action because he can reach speeds of above 150 kmph. In order to help him prolong his career, the physicians and physiotherapists at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) are working on his diet and level of fitness. The 22-year-old is currently feeling much better and fitter after starting to bowl in the nets.

“My rehabilitation course went really well, and I’m feeling much better now. I also feel a lot more in shape. The good news is that during the previous several days, I’ve been bowling with a lot of intensity and the whole run-up, so I won’t be leaving for too long. I’m pleased with my development thus far,” Mayank stated to The Telegraph.

Later in the year, Mayank Yadav will be introduced to international cricket by the BCCI and the selectors. Officials are attempting to test Mayank, and if he passes, the pacer might accompany the team to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bangladesh and New Zealand are slated to visit India for the Test series. As things stand, Mayank will play in the Duleep Trophy when he returns to domestic cricket in September. One BCCI official underlined, nevertheless, that they are not willing to put him at any risk.

“It’s important to give a young fast bowler like Mayank enough time to adjust to the demands of the various forms. He is therefore still being watched carefully. He could have a breakdown if he is thrown into the Indian team too soon, according to a BCCI executive.

Thus, preparing him for India may perhaps start the following year, if necessary. But if he does well in the Duleep Trophy, he might also be given a chance to play in the upcoming home series (against Bangladesh and New Zealand),” he said.
