Mayank Yadav is regarded by Wasim Jaffer as India's dark horse for the Border Gavaskar Trophy in 2024–2025

Wasim Jaffer, a former cricketer for India, recently spoke out to reinforce his faith in the Indian team’s capacity to defeat Australia in a third straight Test series. India will have a strong chance of winning the series, in his opinion, if the speed three of Mohammed Shami, Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah can maintain their fitness throughout.

On November 22, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which many fans are anticipating, will go off at Perth Stadium. Having won the previous two series in Australia in 2018–19 and 2020–21, the Indian team would be hoping for another strong performance.

Jaffer was asked by a fan during a Q&A session on X (the old name for Twitter) who would win the next BGT 2024–25. The former cricketer from India mentioned Mayank Yadav a young player.

as one of the possible inclusions in the Indian team in response to the question. Jaffer called Mayank Yadav the team’s dark horse, despite believing that Arshdeep Singh may provide a solid left-arm pacer option. India has a fantastic chance to win a hat-trick in Australia if Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj remain healthy and play the most of the series. Arshdeep may present the choice with his left arm. And if he’s healthy and available, Mayank Yadav dark horse, Jaffer tweeted.

If Bumrah, Shami and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India have a great opportunity for a hat-trick down under. Arshdeep could bring the left arm option. And Mayank Yadav dark horse provided he’s fit and available. #AUSvIND https://t.co/qnZ2IWDM2u

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be important for both teams in terms of their status in the table. Australia and India are currently the top two teams in the World Test Championship standings. In the summit match of the WTC 2023, the Australians prevailed and took home the championship.

Next month, India will host Bangladesh for a two-Test series as part of their home Test season preparations for the series. In addition, India will play three Test matches against New Zealand prior to departing for Australia.
