The ICC has reported Australian left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann for questionable bowling behaviour. After recovering from an injury, Kuhnemann was a key player in Australia’s 2-0 series victory over Sri Lanka and finished as the series’ leading wicket-taker. In the two matches, Kuhnemann claimed 16 wickets at an average of 17.18, and his effort was crucial to Australia’s victory.
In the meantime, since making his professional cricket debut in 2017, this is the first time his actions have been questioned. In a statement about Kuhnemann, Cricket Australia (CA) stated that they will be in close communication with the ICC and that neither Kuhnemann nor the board will speak further until the problem is settled.
After the second Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle, the Australian team was informed of the match officials’ referral. They will help Matt resolve this issue. Since making his professional debut in 2017, Matt has participated in 124 games, including five Test matches and four One-Day Internationals. Since 2018, he has participated in 55 Big Bash League games, according to a CA representative.
“This is the first time his action has been questioned in his eight years of playing professional cricket. In accordance with ICC standards, Cricket Australia will communicate extensively with the ICC and outside experts. Until the issue is rectified, neither Matthew nor Cricket Australia will comment further,” he continued.
While his action is evaluated, Matthew Kuhnemann is permitted to continue playing domestic cricket.
If he doesn’t pass the test, though, he will be prohibited from bowling. Until he corrects the bowling action and passes the test, the restriction will remain in place.
Regarding Kuhnemann’s performances in international cricket, he has claimed six wickets at an average of 31.83 in ODIs and 25 wickets at an average of 22.20 in red-ball cricket. Aside from this, he has taken 55 wickets in List-A cricket and 90 in first class.
