This summer, Matthew Mott will succeed Charlotte Edwards as head coach of the Sydney Sixers Women in the Women’s Big Bash League. After assuming her new position as head coach of the England Women’s team, Edwards resigned last month.
Matthew Mott will remain the men’s team’s assistant coach in the Big Bash League. After three and a half years, Mott will make her comeback to women’s cricket with this transfer. During his tenure as Australia Women’s coach from 2015 to 2022, he had considerable success working with one of the most influential organisations in women’s cricket.
Matthew Mott signed a two-year contract with the Sixers, the team announced on Friday, May 9. Mott’s involvement in the franchise setup has grown after he was dropped from the English men’s white-ball setup. The 51-year-old is the assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals at the moment. This summer, he will coach the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket.
Matthew Mott expressed how happy he was to be given the chance to coach the Sixers. He was eager to collaborate with the unit in an effort to obtain a WBBL title as soon as possible.
“Working with the Sixers women’s team makes me very happy. I’ve been close to the club for a long time, so I was eager to take advantage of the opportunity when it presented itself. As we strive to win another WBBL championship, I’m excited to get back in touch with the players I’ve taught in the current team and work with some of the younger talent,” Mott said, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Matthew Mott wanted to strengthen the team and had his sights set on the WBBL draft.
“There is already an abundance of talent on the list, including athletes who have excelled at different levels. In order to position ourselves to win a title this season, we want to improve on that at the draft,” Mott continued.
