Recent events in English domestic cricket have seen left-arm medium-fast bowler Matt Taylor sign a two-year extension with Gloucestershire, his boyhood club and county team.
With his whole professional career dedicated to Gloucestershire, the 30-year-old has committed to the club until the end of the 2026 season.
With the exception of Harbhajan Singh, the hard-charging fast bowler has the unique distinction of being the only bowler to bowl a maiden over against the powerful Chris Gayle in Twenty20 cricket. During his 13-year stay with Gloucestershire, he has taken 319 wickets in all forms. He was also selected for the England Pace Program and received the club’s Young Player of the Year award in 2016. 215 wickets in first-class matches, 37 in List-A games, and 67 in Twenty20 matches set his record apart.
Matt Taylor outstanding performance in the 2024 Vitality Blast was praised by Gloucestershire’s head coach Mark Alleyne in an official statement posted on the team’s website.
He noted how Taylor’s presence in the dugout has been both motivating and refreshing, and he commended his upbeat and supportive demeanour. Alleyne also expressed how happy the club’s members were to have Taylor be a part of Gloucestershire’s cricket squad in the upcoming years and how much they wanted to see him carry on with his contributions.
“Matt has been playing a great role for us, especially in the Vitality Blast, and he never takes that for granted. He has an impact on so many games. “Not only that, but Matt is a true positive influence in the locker room, and we’re all excited to see him dedicate the next few years to Gloucestershire,” Alleyne stated on the team’s website.
With 23 wickets in 13 innings at a 7.03 economy rate, Matt Taylor has unquestionably shown his extraordinary skill for Gloucestershire in this Blast.
