ENG vs WI 2024: England bowler Mark Wood bowls the quickest Test over at home

At the second Test of the three-game series on Friday, July 19, star England pacer Mark Wood broke all previous records by setting the speed gun on fire with the quickest over ever recorded in Test cricket by an English bowler at home. Wood got right to work in his opening over of the match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, bowling a delivery that clocked in at 93.9 mph.

As Mark Wood bowled to Windies opener Mikyle Louis, the batter was astounded by his pace.

He delivered his initial delivery and then a scorcher at 96.1 mph. Moreover, the third and fourth delivery were thunderbolts, hitting 95 mph and 92 mph, respectively.

In addition, he broke through with a yorker bowled at 96.5 mph on the fifth ball of the over, which saw the Windies opening settle for a single. He then hit West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite with a delivery that clocked in at 95.2 mph to end the over.

In addition, he went on to smash his own record in that same match by bowling an even faster over. In his third over, Mark Wood recorded speeds of 95 mph, 93 mph, 95 mph, 96 mph, 97.1 mph, and 94 mph. His swift rise to fame on social media was evident.
