South Africa started off rather well after being put in to bat first. Temba Bavuma, the skipper, was the first to leave. In the centre, Jason Smith and Matthew Breetzke appeared to be very at ease. Mitchell Santner’s outstanding play ran Smith out just as he appeared to be on his way to reaching his second ODI half-century in as many games. It wasn’t long before Kyle Verreynne fell. In the centre was Wiaan Mulder, who joined Breetzke.
Matthew Breetzke proceeded to reach his first ODI century in the 41st over.
In the Tri Nation Series 2025, New Zealand defeated South Africa with ease in the second game. The game was won by six wickets with eight deliveries remaining as they were able to easily chase down the 305-run total. This was New Zealand’s second straight victory in the ongoing tri-series at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
Breetzke became the first batter to reach the 150-run milestone in the same over after inflicting a furious 20-run blitz on Ben Sears. The daring starter mishit his shot to mid-off in the very next over, preventing him from continuing. Mulder then used the bat to deliver a couple blows. In the end, South Africa scored 304/6 after 50 overs. With a quota of just 43 runs given up, Michael Bracewell was the Kiwis’ most economical bowler.
The Black Caps’ powerplay got off to a promising start as they approached the run-chase. Kane Williamson was thrown into the centre after Will Young was fired. The two of them entered the innings with relative ease. In addition to effectively removing the stray balls, they rotated the strike fairly well. New Zealand finished comfortably at 198/1 after 30 overs. Following Williamson’s first century in ODIs since June 2019, Devon Conway, who replaced Rachin Ravindra, bitterly missed his tonne by three runs.
All-rounder Senuran Muthusamy’s double-wicket debut gave the impression that New Zealand’s innings would be put on hold. Together with Williamson, Glenn Phillips led the Black Caps to a six-wicket triumph. New Zealand was in charge the entire time, even if their victory margin in terms of balls left was somewhat small. In the 73 One-Day Internationals that were played between the two teams, the 612-run total was the highest cumulative score.

This is turning out to be an excellent run chase. Kiwis need 42 of 51 balls to chase down Proteas score of 304. Kane Williamson is still out there batting at 111.
P.S. It’s the same score India chased down yesterday with Indian captain Rohit Sharma scoring a century.#NZvsSA…— SaRoKoLe (@krikat4444) February 10, 2025

Very decent crowd for a neutral game on a Monday morning that have stuck around all day.
If Pakistan want to host more tri-series, worries about low attendances for non-home match may not be a huge issue, especially at the Gaddafi. #NZvsSA
