Sunil Gavaskar, a former cricket player for India, spoke about CSK’s disappointing IPL 2025 campaign. According to the expert, many high-priced players don’t perform because they aren’t hungry. Given that the teams have the option of releasing them in the upcoming season, Gavaskar believed it would not significantly affect them.
Nonetheless, Sunil Gavaskar believed that the national team might be impacted by the individual’s success or failure.
According to the former Indian opener, MS Dhoni was accommodated by lowering the IPL’s auction retention price cap to INR 4 crore.
When their hunger and drive are satisfied, many of the players who were purchased for exorbitant sums of money just go. The franchisees may not care because they may consider it a good riddance, but Indian cricket suffers when a player leaves, whether or not he is successful. The ceiling was increased to Rs 4 crore to make room for Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was uncapped prior to the auction last year,” Sunil Gavaskar wrote for Sportstar.
It’s difficult to think of an uncapped player who defended his inclusion: Sunil Gavaskar explained that few uncapped players were purchased for exorbitant sums of money and continued by defending their cost. Gavaskar thought that these players could get better with experience in a few years, but he also thought that playing in local leagues would not increase their prospects of being better.
“It is difficult to remember an uncapped player who was purchased for a significant sum of money and who has successfully defended his place in the squad throughout the years. With experience, he might develop a little over the next several years, but if he continues to play in the same local league, his chances of improving are slim, Sunil Gavaskar continued.
Sunil Gavaskar went on to say that these players may perform well without being constrained by the price tag.
“What does happen is that if in the next auction his price comes down, then the pressure of expectations also comes down and the player plays a lot better,” wrote Gavaskar.
