Earlier this year, Beau Webster played his first Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) against India. The 31-year-old took out Shubman Gill and scored 57 and 39* in the two innings. He took two wickets and amassed 54 runs in two innings while playing in Sri Lanka. His average is 24 runs with the ball and 50 runs with the bat.
The goal of Australian all-rounder Beau Webster is to be included in the starting lineup for the Wednesday, June 11 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s. Australia, led by Pat Cummins, will play South Africa at The Home of Cricket to defend the WTC championship.
Notably, after missing months of action due to back surgery, star all-rounder Cameron Green has rejoined the Australian team. He will, nevertheless, play as a specialised batter. Because of this, Beau Webster is still considered by the selectors to play against the Proteas as the only seam-bowling all-rounder.
“To represent the nation in such a significant game would make me incredibly proud. The two-year cycles mean there is a lot of cricket to get to this point, and I’m incredibly glad to have been a part of it. The guys look forward to this match. Beau Webster told ICC Digital, “I’ll be doing everything I can to try and play and show everyone what I can do.”
Beau Webster played Warwickshire county cricket in May to get used to the English environment.
He became used to new surfaces and the Dukes ball. He held ends up for the specialist bowlers by bowling regularly in strong lines and lengths and accumulating significant runs in the middle order. According to the Tasmanian player, the experience has improved his ability to play in English circumstances.
“I had the good fortune to play four games for Warwickshire with the Dukes ball in a variety of conditions. “I feel like I’m hitting the ball as well as I’ve ever done, and if I get the nod (against South Africa),” Beau Webster said, adding that it was only good for his bowling and batting.
