Reports: Mahmudullah to retire from T20Is after India's series

Mahmudullah, a seasoned all-rounder for Bangladesh, is allegedly getting ready to hang up his boots from the shortest format. The 38-year-old is currently playing in the Twenty20 International series against India, and he is reportedly planning to declare his retirement before the second Twenty20 International.

It should be noted that on October 9, India and Bangladesh will play each other in the second Twenty20 International at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. It’s interesting to note that Mahmudullah, who debuted in 2007, has a long career and is among the greatest.

Despite being picked for the three-game T20I series against India, he was scheduled to separate ways following the T20 World Cup 2024. His decision to retire is said to have been prompted by a decline in his play following his exclusion from Bangladesh’s roster for the 2022 T20 World Cup, despite having captained the team in the 2021 tournament.

It’s not a pause; his goal is to close the T20I chapter. He is expected to make the announcement in this series,” The Daily Star cited a BCB representative as saying.

He may speak with the selectors as follows: Najmul Hossain Shanto

It is noteworthy that Mahmudullah announced his retirement from Test cricket in 2021 and has recently hinted about quitting all forms of international cricket. Najmul Hossain Shanto recently spoke out regarding Mahmudullah‘s prospects in the game, emphasizing the significance of the India series to him.

“As far as Riyad [Mahmudullah] bhai (brother) is concerned, this series is very important to him, and he may speak with the selectors about it,” Though I’m not quite sure how to put this, I think there will be talks about his future with the board and selectors. stated Najmul Hossain Shanto.

It is important to remember that Mahmudullah played 139 Twenty20 Internationals for Bangladesh prior to the Delhi T20I against India.

In those matches, he amassed 2395 runs and claimed 40 wickets. Should he decide to leave the format, it would be very felt by Bangladesh in the T20I lineup.
