Mahmudullah leaves cricket as an international player.

Mahmudullah, the senior all-rounder for Bangladesh, just declared on social media on Wednesday, March 12, that he was retiring from international cricket. The 39-year-old played in 430 international games for Bangladesh.

The seasoned player played 141 Twenty20 Internationals, 239 One-Day Internationals, and 50 Test matches for Bangladesh. In addition to the numerous individual accomplishments he has made as a cricket player, he is unique in that he is the only player from Bangladesh to have scored three hundreds in 50-over World Cups, with two of those scores being in 2015 and 2023.

In a recent request, Mahmudullah asked the Bangladesh Cricket Board to exclude him from the shortlist of players for the central contract beyond March 2025. The all-rounder was placed in the Grade B category by the BCB selection panel in the proposed central contract list for 2025.

“I’ve made the decision to stop playing cricket internationally. I want to express my gratitude to my coaches, teammates, and most importantly, my supporters, who have always been there for me. “A huge thank you to my parents, my in-laws, especially my father-in-law, and most importantly, my brother Emdad Ullah, who has been my coach and mentor since I was a child,” Mahmudullah wrote in the Facebook post.

“Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to my wife and children for always being there for me. In my red and green shirt, I’m sure Raeid will miss me. Even though things don’t always end perfectly, you say yes and go on. Peace. “Best wishes to Bangladesh cricket and my team,” the note said.

Against New Zealand in the just finished Champions Trophy, Mahmudullah played his farewell match for the country.

His and Mushfiqur Rahim‘s status in the national team had been seriously questioned after the 50-over event. Mahmudullah followed in the footsteps of his long-time teammate when the latter recently announced his retirement from ODIs.
