A two-game Test series between Pakistan and Bangladesh is all ready to begin. On August 21, both teams will square off in the opening Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. They both intend to give it their all in an effort to move up the World Test Championship standings.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Bangladesh’s opener, had a groin injury ahead of the first Test, which was devastating news.
The great hitter will miss not only the first but also the second Test match against Pakistan due to the injury, which might take up to two weeks to heal.
Mahmudul travelled to Pakistan for the series and even took part in a four-day Bangladesh A match against Pakistan A earlier this week in Islamabad. The 23-year-old did not come out to bat in the second innings of the match, but he scored 65 runs in the first.
Notably, from August 14 to 16, the entire Bangladeshi team trained at the Gaddafi Stadium. August 17 was when they were supposed to visit Islamabad. With Mahmudul’s current injury, Bangladesh’s hopes of securing the first position appear severely damaged.
Shadman Islam is anticipated to replace Mahmudul and Zakir Hasan as the team’s openers for the Pakistan Tests due to his injuries. The two had been starting for the team and were quite comfortable in their roles.
In the next Test matches, Pakistan and Bangladesh will both be trying to win. In terms of the WTC standings, the teams might benefit greatly from the victories.
Bangladesh has one victory, three defeats, and is currently ranked eighth in the rankings after four games. They will be looking to win and climb the standings with their current 12-point lead.
