When it counted most, KL Rahul came through, leading the innings with a cool 90 and establishing a crucial 188-run stand with captain Shubman Gill. On Day 4 of their match against England at Old Trafford, India was in serious difficulty. It was determination, not flair, that saved them as early wickets fell, with Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal both removed for ducks.
A lesson in patience, the opener’s knock spanned 230 deliveries. Even if he didn’t reach a century, he made an equally important contribution. Rahul’s 90 may not have garnered much attention in a cricketing society that is fixated on three-figure runs, but it served as the cornerstone of India’s comeback in the second innings.
The right-handed batter’s old IPL team, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), celebrated India’s incredible second-inning comeback with a tweet after the game. The caption said “The men who made it happen” and included the three centurions, Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar.

But KL Rahul was noticeably missing from the tweet, which confused the supporters.
Since the notorious on-field altercation between KL Rahul and club owner Sanjiv Goenka during IPL 2024, tensions between Rahul and LSG have been raging. Rahul was picked up by the Delhi Capitals shortly after being released prior to the 2025 auction, and he reacted as best he could with reliable runs and form.
Fans quickly pointed out that the graphic commemorating India’s comeback would be incomplete without Rahul’s name because it was KL Rahul tenacity that allowed India to survive. The LSG tweet felt like a covert insult.
In the meanwhile, the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 will take place at the Oval, marking India and England’s final meeting in the series.
