Lockie Ferguson moves down Lord's memory lane in 2019.

One of the best contests in the history of the sport is largely recognized as the championship match of the 2019 ODI World Cup. Despite the many broken hearts of the Black Caps players and fans, the team accepted the painful loss with good humor as the match ended in England’s favor following a contentious finale. Recently, prominent New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson spoke out over the 2019 World Cup’s championship match.

The 32-year-old expressed his opinion that the game is still recent in his mind but added that the entire team has progressed and continues to play England competitively anytime both teams are in the spotlight. “I can still clearly recall leaving on the last day with banners for the World Cup final at Lord’s flying and simply the entire scene. A fantastic day of cricket was had. It’s nice that it was decided at the last minute, but it’s been four years,” Lockie Ferguson told The Guardian.

We’ve played a lot of cricket since then, and we have a lot of friends that play for England. Although there won’t be any hostility or anything of the sort, when we cross the line, we’re playing competitive cricket, he continued.

I firmly believe that the players in this lineup are exceptional: Lockie Ferguson

Also discussed by Lockie Ferguson was New Zealand’s potential at the future ODI World Cup in 2023. The bowler asserted that the team is capable of competing against any team in cricket throughout the world as well as being focused on winning trophies.

“I genuinely believe that this team is extraordinary, therefore it goes without saying that we go into every event looking to win. It’s reasonable that some teams believe they have a better chance than others, but I don’t believe any team shows up believing they can’t. That is undoubtedly our mindset, Ferguson added.

“We play professional sports; we’re there to win games, and as a group, that’s all we can focus on: what we do well as a team, play the cricket we play, with the culture, with the enjoyment factor,” he continued.
