Lloyd Tennant will take over as Ireland Women’s head coach on June 1st, according to Cricket Ireland. Tennant, 57, has been coaching and developing international, regional, and first-class cricket players and teams for more than 30 years. He is an ECB Level 4 accredited cricket coach. In addition, he spent four years as the head coach of Central Sparks.
Tennant has extensive expertise in women’s cricket, having served as the ECB Women and Girls’ Talent Manager for two years, the assistant coach for the Manchester Originals Female Team, and the coach for the ECB Female Academy and “A” Team.
In addition, he has over 20 years of coaching experience working at Leicestershire CCC along the Male High Performance Pathway. He was the bowling coach for the ECB Male Under-19 team.
For eight years, Tennant played cricket professionally for Essex CCC and Leicestershire CCC. “I’m very excited about this new role – given the rapid development of women’s cricket around the world, it’s such a great time to be involved,” Tennant said in response to his selection. Under Ed Joyce’s leadership, this Ireland Women’s team has made tremendous progress, and I want to carry on his fantastic work by helping this team develop further. I must admit that I am eager to get started.
“We are thrilled to have secured the services of Lloyd Tennant as our new National Women’s Head Coach,” stated Graeme West, Director of High Performance for Cricket Ireland.
Lloyd Tennant was an exceptional candidate due to his extensive expertise coaching both male and female High Performance Pathways in the UK. I am sure that the players and staff he oversees will benefit from his wealth of experience and knowledge, as well as his added ability to instruct.
He has a history of maximising players’ potential and maintaining their advancement. His tenure as Head Coach of Central Sparks, where he oversaw a High Performance Program for several years and developed a remarkable group of players, many of whom are now members of England’s Senior, “A” Team, and Academy teams, served as an example of this.
Lloyd Tennant has gained insight into what it takes to be the “world’s best” thanks to his work with the Female England ‘A’ Squad. This is especially true when it comes to long-term planning and preparation for important ICC events, which are essential to sustaining the National Team’s recent upward trajectory.
“We think Lloyd Tennant would be a great addition to the current national team, which is full with young talent. Lloyd has a deep understanding of the difficulties in managing and developing players who are juggling academic obligations with the demands of being an elite athlete thanks to his additional experience with the ECB coaching players through Under-19 World Cup cycles and National Academy programs.
