‘Incredibly proud, felt like a kid’- Liam Livingstone after being appointed as England captain

Jos Buttler is still recovering from a calf injury that has kept him out of action since The Hundred 2024, therefore England choose Liam Livingstone to captain the ODI series against the West Indies. Livingstone has been selected by the selectors to take over for Harry Brook, who led the squad against Australia last month while he was away.

Jonny Bairstow is currently out of the picture, and Moeen Ali declared his retirement from international cricket after not being selected. A second lifeline was given to Livingstone, who was unexpectedly summoned up to the series to take Buttler’s position. He has an excellent opportunity to establish himself and succeed as the team’s captain.

The three senior cricket players that were benched for the series against Australia included Liam Livingstone, which is noteworthy.

As he reflected on the event, the all-rounder said he was quite proud and felt like a child when the news was announced. “I spoke with Rob Key, the managing director of England,” he said, “and asked him to give me another chance.” He feels that he hasn’t yet given it his all and wants to exploit the opportunity.

You don’t get told you’re going to be captain of England very often, so I’m really pleased of myself. Professional sport involves being excluded, but after a few challenging events, I may not have broken out of that rut as soon as I could have. “I had an honest conversation with Rob Key and told him that all I want is another opportunity, and hopefully I can prove you wrong,” according to a comment from Livingstone that Eurosport used.

“I definitely thought I did that in the series against Australia.” I am in a very different place than I was six or twelve months ago. I feel young and almost like I’m starting a new career. He continued, “I think my best self is still to come.”
